Ellen DeGeneres and the passion for vintage Rolexes
In the vintage watch market, few examples are more desirable than a Rolex Daytona in gold from the late 1960s. Ellen DeGeneres, an American presenter, knows this very well and bought a rare model for about $ 750,000, from the seller Jasper Lijfering.
Two months ago, DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, flew to Mr. Lijfering's Amsterdam Vintage Watches store in the Netherlands.
DeGeneres was wearing a new Rolex Daytona in gold with a green dial for a recent production model. At the exit, the presenter had with her two Daytona "Big Red" in stainless steel (one with a black dial and the other in silver), a Pepsi GMT 50s and a Patek Philippe Nautilus from the late 70s.
A meeting worth about $ 300,000, as reported by Lijfering: "The Nautilus you purchased is a watch for authentic collectors". Only a few weeks later, the artist bought a golden underwater model from 1978, another more recent stainless steel Daytona and a 1970s Milgauss with a silver dial.
