Challenge to tradition: Hora Nova
The creations of this self-taught philosopher and watchmaker are provocative challenges, even in terms of tradition. The number, the diversity and the originality of his creations have earned him international fame as one of the most fertile minds in the watchmaking sector. Vincent Calabrese is one of the few watchmakers able to build watch movements by hand. Most are made in 18-carat gold but he is the only one among his peers to have created several in platinum 950. His watchmaking style, which he defines as “spatial”, allows him to build personalized movements in any shape or form, such as initials, Latin characters, symbols, countries and so on.
His technical talents, such as the Flying Tourbillon, with a classic display or regulator, are accompanied by aesthetic results, and the pure beauty and apparently simple aspect of his extremely complex creations make them surprising. Vincent Calabrese loves new challenges: deciding not to stop after his ‘Spatial’ success, he created further watches that, despite their traditional ‘dial’, had to be different from anything that he had done before in order to demonstrate his talent.
He is able to create a variety of models, from Commedia gold-plated quartz watches, to commissioned pieces, personalized and entirely handmade in 18-carat gold or platinum 950.
All his creations contain a mechanism and external features that he invented and produced himself.
