Phillips celebrates Guido Mondani
Guido Mondani, a well-known collector and expert in the field of luxury watches, will be the protagonist of Phillips' upcoming auction “The Geneve Watch Auction: XIX, Featuring the Guido Mondani Collection” to be held in Geneva on 11th and 12th May 2024.
An event that will be attended by his daughter, Giorgia Mondani, co-author of the Mondani Editore books, as well as founder of Mondani Web, a company that, over the years, has achieved an international track record, counting among its clients the most prominent players in the luxury watch sector.
The collection involved in the forthcoming auction comprises more than 40 wristwatches from Guido Mondani's private collection, including the very first watch he bought for himself, a Cartier, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona - in 18-carat yellow gold (estimated to auction for CHF 600,000- 1,200,000), which Mondani bought as a birthday present for his wife while she was on holiday, and two contemporary “sporty” Rolexes, bought to celebrate the birth of his grandchildren.
Also, up for auction, an 18-carat pink gold Rolex chronograph from 1955 (auction estimate CHF 400,000 - 800,000), purchased after a friend had asked him for advice on it.
There will also be a 1938 Eberhard & Co. Rattrapante chronograph in 18-carat yellow gold, which he added to his collection in 1988 after buying it from a former Eberhard & Co. salesman.
