The White Olive Tree at VOJ 2018
A white olive tree created by the artist and gemmologist, Agatino Cappella, with an olive root base, trunk in Carrara marble, branches and leaves made from 3,333 grams of platinum and 3,003 diamonds for a total of 366 carats.
These are the precious characteristics of the extraordinary White Olive Tree (L’Ulivo Bianco), symbol of the World Diamond Group Platinum award, presented for the first time during the 68th edition of the Venice Film Festival and in many other cities around the world, including Hangzhou, Shanghai, Peking, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Doha, at the Four Seasons in Milan and, of course, at VICENZAORO.
A sculpture of rare beauty, it is the result of fine, Made in Italy, master craftsmanship, created by following a production route from Sicily to Veneto. In fact, its creation, commissioned by Giuliana Castrenze – Managing Director of World Diamond Group, began at Adrano, near Catania, where the marble was sculptured by hand, and ended in the small town of Quinto Vicentino (Vi), with the casting and processing of the platinum at the Casarotto Roberto Snc company under the artistic leadership of Cappella, an artist of international calibre.
A particular technical study was essential in order to “weld” the platinum for the leaves and branches and give the work an almost natural movement, as if the tree were being caressed by the breeze. The Olive Tree is, in fact, displayed inside a special motorized and purposefully lit showcase. The sculpture gyrates so that observers can appreciate every angle and comes to life with the reflections and light games of the diamonds.
The White Olive Tree is an extraordinary sculpture that symbolizes the union of a population. In this way, through art and culture, the Italians celebrated the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, a country whose master skills and expertise in the gold-jewellery field, are famous and envied the world over.
Besides the preciousness of the materials, the tree, with its creativity and technical ingenuity, is a symbol that contributes considerably to increasing the value of Made in Italy.
