Sotheby’s: “Magnificient Jewels”
On 9 June in New York, Sotheby's will auction spectacular new pieces of jewellery. The "Magnificient Jewels" event includes 94 lots, including a series of white and coloured diamonds.
The headlights are all on “The Sienna Star”, an exceptional 73.11-carat Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond by Glenn Spiro and defined as “an extraordinary object in the extraordinary world of precious stones” by the GIA. The Sienna Star is in fact one of the few diamonds to have received the highest colour classification for yellow diamonds from the Gemmological Institute of America and is one of the largest Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamonds ever put up for auction. The absolute scarcity of fine yellow diamonds exceeding 50 carats makes the appearance at auction of this jewel a fundamental moment in the world of precious gems.
Also featured at the June auction is a distinguished private collection that boasts six breathtaking jewels, totalling over $ 13 million and the proceeds of which will go to a charity foundation. Above all stands out an impressive Colombian emerald and diamond necklace by Harry Winston, which combines elegant and delicate design with exceptional stones and exquisite workmanship. Complementing it is a 13.02-carat Burmese ruby ring, mounted by Carvin French, a spectacular Andrew Clunn necklace, embellished with 28 graduated oval-shaped diamonds for a total of 168 carats, a 23.59 diamond ring carat D Color and a pair of D colour diamond pendants of 27.01 and 29.84 carats respectively.
From the great French Maison Van Cleef and Arpels, Sotheby's offers a combination of necklace and bracelet in rose gold and diamonds Zip Antique Udaipur. The zip applied to the jewels was, as is known, an idea of the Duchess of Windsor in the 1930s, but the first of the now iconic Zip models by Van Cleef & Arpels is from the 1950s. Very few examples were made during this period, further consolidating design as one of the most coveted jewels in the world.
The pieces for sale will be on display at Sotheby's galleries on York Avenue from 4 to 8 June as part of Sotheby's Luxury Week, a series of nine auctions spanning the fastest-growing categories in the luxury sphere.
